An eye-opener It is worth to go to the red light district and see a different view on the city. Except of ladies in the windows, there are many pubs, sex shops and many good restaurants.
Even though it feels relatively safe during the day and early evening, I did not feel so comfortable in the late evening. There is a lot of people partying, crowds of drank people looking for adventure - not ok for me. We enjoyed the Roy's Red light tour. Our guide Kimberly was very knowledgable We covered a large portion of town walking.
The various alleys and Windows were fascinating. I don't think the Red Light District has anything really nasty-looking on the outside. Maybe I went there at the wrong time, I did not see any half-naked ladies. Also I came too early and the red lights were not lit up yet.
Come later in the evening to get a better colorful scene. It is a good place to observe some alternate culture. The main street in the district is filled with tourists, and I do not think it is dangerous at all to walk around unless you start venturing into hidden alleys. From the Red Light District, we entered Chinatown which is nearby, so it is quite convenient if you want to see both places.

I think it is safer for you not to photograpgh patrons or workers outside these venues or storefronts unless you do it from a distance. Best to avoid unnecessary trouble. I guess that the Red Light District is one of the most intriguing places I've ever been.
